An infant has died from extreme cold after torrential rain flooded her family’s tent in the southern Gaza Strip, highlighting the worsening plight of displaced Palestinians struggling through harsh winter conditions.

Local medical officials reported that eight-month-old Rahaf Abu Jazar passed away in Khan Younis when freezing temperatures and floodwater inundated the tent where she and her family were sheltering.

Her mother, Hejar Abu Jazar, recounted that she had fed the baby before sleep, but when they woke up, the rain had poured into the tent and wind and cold overwhelmed the child.

Health authorities warned that infants, the elderly, and other vulnerable people face growing dangers amid rain-soaked shelters and plummeting temperatures, conditions scientists link to the ongoing winter storm affecting the region.

Civil defense teams reported that flooding has affected entire displacement sites across Gaza, with calls for urgent international intervention to deliver proper shelter, heating, and medical aid for those exposed to severe weather.
