Siege Justification

Aid Convoy Allegations: A Pretext to Deepen Gaza Siege

The recent statement by U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), alleging that a humanitarian aid truck was looted by operatives of Hamas in the southern section of the Gaza Strip, has been firmly rejected by both Hamas and the Gaza Government Media Office. They describe the claim as “baseless and fabricated”, contending that it serves as a pretext to justify a further reduction in humanitarian aid and to bolster the ongoing blockade of the enclave.

Hamas declared that no international or local humanitarian agency, nor any driver associated with the convoys, had reported an incident of looting by the movement.

The Gaza Government Media Office added that the accusation contains “fundamental contradictions”, pointing out that the drone footage shared by the U.S. lacks the necessary contextual information such as date, time and precise location.

Critics argue that framing the allegation in this way shifts the focus away from the far larger humanitarian issues: severely restricted aid entry, scarce supplies, and the ongoing siege. In that view, the claim becomes part of a narrative aimed at legitimising further restrictions rather than addressing the root causes of the crisis.
