Ceasefire in Name Only: Gaza Homes Flattened Amid ‘Truce

Despite the official truce, the residents of the Gaza Strip continue to see their homes turned to rubble as Israeli bombardment persists. According to multiple reports, residential buildings across the enclave have been demolished even after the cease-fire came into effect.

Satellite imagery and on-the-ground accounts show that tens of homes in neighbourhoods such as Tel Sultan, as-S Salam and Idari were razed, some of them within 700 metres of the Egyptian border — a zone supposedly protected by the cease-fire.

Even as displaced Palestinians attempt to return to what remains of their houses, they confront dust-filled fields where communities once stood. One returnee described arriving home to find “nothing left but piles of concrete and twisted metal”.

Humanitarian observers warn that the destruction goes beyond immediate damage — by continuing the bombardment during a declared pause in fighting, the broader pattern may amount to dismantling civilian life rather than strictly targeting combatants.
